If I only knew...
As long as I live, I will never forget the moment I heard the words, “Your son has dyslexia”. A dozen thoughts and emotions whirred through my mind. There was relief that we finally had an answer. There was shame and regret at all the times I said (yelled) things like, “You’re not trying” or “You need to focus”, and of course the tears shed by both our son and me at the mounting frustration and seemingly unsuccessful attempts at schoolwork. There was anger that my son was just shy a few weeks of turning 17 and now being diagnosed, not with a tendency towards dyslexia, but as I call it full-blown dyslexia. We could have not navigated through the diagnosis and remediation without Mrs. Kris Smith.

From Cathy Ann Smith...
The MTA training that Kris Smith provides is thorough, effective and continuous; she shares in depth information just as if it were coming from Margret Taylor Smith herself. One of her greatest strengths is providing personal experiences gained through the teaching of MTA; Kris shares ways to keep the instruction relevant, interesting and engaging for students, while continuing to teach with fidelity. She continues to answer questions and provide counseling as needed; no question has ever gone unanswered and in a timely manner. The training that Kris Smith provides is truly a work of heart as it comes from a very personal place; the position of a mother’s need to provide her child the appropriate instruction in order to give her child and all children the gift of reading. My students are showing growth with MTA that I did not see before; they are retaining information and transferring that information into the classroom on a daily basis. Most recently, one of the second grade teachers mentioned to me that she had witnessed SOS being utilized during a multiple choice spelling test, we had a conversation and that student is now taking the regular spelling test. Success!
